Cybernetics are a way of life. The working require them to do their jobs; the injured need them to survive; the military continuously upgrades them to keep a leg up on the competition. At the center of this basic technological necessity lies Fames Corporation, a centuries-old manufacturer of cybernetics that employs dozens of repo hunters to bring in those whose dues have lapsed. And Fames will always collect–even if they have to take their ‘netics back themselves.

Jailbroken cyborgs, or jabbies, are the worst threat on the street. Having hacked their ‘netics and removed their limiting protocols, a jabby can use their prosthetics to their full potential, whether that’s tearing out throats or punching in walls. Some of the highest-tech hunters specialise in jabby neutralisation and retrieval, and wouldn’t you guess…Sam and Dean Winchester are two of them. And they’re in for a wake-up call.

Sneak Peek:

It was too easy.

An autocar had logged his target’s identification processor when it transported her and one other person (family, judging by the data) to the outskirts of town. They had exited the ‘car half an hour ago outside a small motel that was well-known to hunters for taking bribes to skip the scanning process, probably to rest for the night before they attempted to enter the undercity. How they intended to do that he wasn’t sure; too many traps and tricks had kept the hunters at bay. The entrances had eluded everyone he knew, including his brother, and for Sam and Dean Winchester that was a feat. If they couldn’t find it, it couldn’t be found. Once a jabby got under, they were as good as gone.

Which meant either jabbies were stuck up here with them, or hunters were on one hell of a time crunch to catch them before they escaped. Sam suspected this was a case of the first, but by now he knew better than to assume.

The motel owner recognised him when he walked in. His face soured, head tilted back to meet Sam’s significantly higher eyeline, probably already totalling the damages of the incoming fight. How he stayed in business no one could figure out, but it was his own fault for skipping identification scans and harboringharbouring fugitives. Nonetheless he valued his health enough to tuck tail and dip out the back, leaving his guests to their fates.

It really was too easy.
