Summary:

After The Fall, the angels took a parasitic approach to dealing with the humans. No longer was there free will, instead there was control. Sanctuaries were erected, sorting humans into four categories, and Castiel’s brothers and sisters loved the new world order. He, however, didn’t agree. Their Father had always taught them that all life had purpose and meaning, but Castiel was sure he didn’t mean this. Despite his aversion to keeping a human, he agreed to take on Dean, a human marked Corrupt and sentenced to death. The idea that he could save Dean brought a new direction to Castiel’s life and he found himself engaged in learning about how the world once was. With Dean’s help, Castiel finds his inner strength, his drive to save every human he can, and somehow… he learns what it means to be human.

Opening paragraph

The Fall was easy.

Heaven had been failing for ages, its power slowly ebbing away until the host was residing in an empty shell of half-hearted visions. Taking refuge on Earth was logical, comfortable for those that had spent time amongst humans before and quickly becoming home to those who hadn’t. The humans were receptive to celestial beings walking among them as well, a sign of good things to come.

Until harmony was just as lost as Heaven was.
